Sodium Nitrite is used for production of organonitrogen compounds, conversion of amines into diazo products, and as one of the important ingredients in dye formulations. It is known to have chemical formula NaNO2 with molar mass of 68.9953 g/mol. In combination with sodium thiosulfate, this compound is used for treatment of poisoning caused by cyanide. For having antimicrobial activity, it is widely utilized as a food additive with E number E250. Sodium Nitrite appears as white to pale yellow colored solid with melting point of 271 degrees Celsius. It is water soluble and hygroscopic in nature with ability to prevent chances of botulism.
