Magnesium carbonate

Magnesium Carbonate is an inorganic salt which is most commonly utilized for producing magnesium oxide by calcining process. With chemical formula MgCO3, it is used for fireproofing and in fire extinguishing compositions. This is a white colored hygroscopic solid that has molecular weight of 84.3139 g/mol. It also finds application as filler & smoke suppressant in plastics and as a reinforcing agent for neoprene rubber. In medicinal formulations, Magnesium Carbonate serves as laxative agent which helps in loosening bowels. In table salts, this compound provides free flowing property and is also used in formulation of antacids.
